Welcome to the online catalogue of Archipel International Maritime Gallery, specialist in early nautical instruments, old globes, sea charts and collectables.

We do hope you enjoy looking around the site and we look forward to hearing from you.

In the middle of the ocean the navigating officer took out his sextant to take the sun’s altitude. To the uninitiated, it must seem a magical thing. Peering through small binoculars, moving a lever back and forth, turning a small wheel and watching the clock. After the calculations in the chartroom and the murmurings about degrees, minutes, seconds and altitude lines, it appears that the magical formula works. All these actions together form a ritual that always come to the same conclusion: Here we are!, in which ‘here’ is a spot on the chart under the index finger.

The collection arose from an interest in naval history and includes mainly navigational and other maritime objects from the early sailing period – the time when ships were made of wood and men of steel.
The catalogue contains only first class objects that are complete and in good condition. Any flaws are noted.
